New music video “Sex & Cigarettes” released by The Violent Hour
The Violent Hour has recently revealed their newest music video for the song “Sex & Cigarettes” from their self-titled EP. The lead singer, Carla, expressed that this track was the first one she penned for the EP, describing it as a fun, sexy, and fast-paced riot-grrrl ode to chaos and chemistry. She personally curated the locations for the music video, which included spots like Circus Liquor and the iconic Mustang Motel in Los Angeles, and even secured a striking red convertible to feature in the video.
The “Sex & Cigarettes” music video represents the band’s third visual from their debut EP, following videos for “Sick Ones” and “Hell Or Hollywood.” Directed by Nathan Mowery, the video aims to capture the band’s raw energy and natural camaraderie in a contemporary, Russ Meyer-inspired dream that transforms a simple road trip into a wild adventure. The final product stays true to the band’s vision, exuding a gritty, sexy, and slightly unhinged vibe that complements the song’s essence perfectly.
Reflecting on the filming experience, rhythm guitarist Allie Kaye mentioned that, despite being relatively new as a band, spending a full day together shooting scenes for the video brought the members closer and solidified their bond as a group. Lead guitarist Kiana De Leon echoed this sentiment, emphasizing how the filming process felt more like hanging out with friends than work, accentuating the instant chemistry and excitement palpable in every scene.
Drummer Sasha DeLeon highlighted the importance of enjoying the company of bandmates, stating that if the members aren’t having fun together, then what’s the point? Bassist Jewel Steele recalled the joy of watching Carla drive the ’63 Ford Falcon Futura around Los Angeles while they rocked out during filming, underscoring the exhilarating and carefree atmosphere on set.
In addition to their recent music video release, The Violent Hour has also been announced as direct support for Steel Panther’s December dates in various cities across the United States. Fans can catch them live at venues like The Pageant in St. Louis, Bogarts in Cincinnati, and House of Blues in New Orleans, among others. This opportunity to open for Steel Panther presents an exciting milestone for The Violent Hour, further solidifying their place in the rock music scene.
Through their energetic performances and cohesive camaraderie, The Violent Hour continues to captivate audiences both on record and on stage. With their latest music video for “Sex & Cigarettes” showcasing their distinct style and vibrant energy, the band is poised to make a lasting impact on the rock music landscape.
