Legendary rocker Ritchie Blackmore has made the difficult decision to cancel the remainder of his tour due to health concerns. The announcement was made by Blackmore on Tuesday, citing “medical reasons” as the cause for the cancellation. The 80-year-old guitar icon, best known for his work with bands like Deep Purple and Rainbow, did not provide specifics regarding the nature of the health issues affecting the band members.

This news comes after Blackmore suffered a heart attack in 2023, as reported by Ultimate Classic Rock. Shows that have been affected by this decision include performances that were scheduled for November 15 in Newtown, New Jersey, November 20 in Wilmington, Delaware, November 23 in Cohoes, New York, and November 29 in Tarrytown, New York. While these dates are officially labeled as “postponed,” no information regarding rescheduled performances has been shared at this time.

Blackmore is a highly esteemed English guitarist who has made a significant impact on the world of rock music. His contributions to hard rock band Deep Purple, particularly on iconic tracks like “Smoke on the Water,” and his work with heavy metal outfit Rainbow, where he collaborated with renowned vocalist Ronnie James Dio, have solidified his status as a legendary musician. Blackmore was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2016 and has been recognized as one of the greatest and most influential guitarists of all time by esteemed publications such as Rolling Stone and Guitar Player.

In 1997, Blackmore formed Blackmore’s Night alongside his wife, Candice Night. The band specializes in performing medieval-themed folk music, but Blackmore recently surprised fans at a Virginia concert by including a rendition of Deep Purple’s “Child in Time” in their setlist. Despite this deviation from their usual style, Blackmore humorously assured the audience that such an occurrence was a one-time event and would not be repeated in the future.

After departing from Deep Purple in 1975 to establish Rainbow, Blackmore later rejoined the former in 1993. The band continues to tour under the Deep Purple name, captivating audiences with beloved tracks like “Hush,” “Highway Star,” and “Black Night.” Meanwhile, former Deep Purple vocalist David Coverdale recently shared his decision to retire from the music scene after over 50 years of performing with various notable acts, including Deep Purple, Whitesnake, and collaborations with Jimmy Page.

Coverdale expressed his gratitude towards everyone who had supported him throughout his illustrious career, emphasizing that the time had come for him to retire and enjoy a well-deserved break. With touching sentiments and a nod to his iconic rockstar image, Coverdale bid farewell to his fans, expressing his love and appreciation for their unwavering support over the years.
