SOCIALSPINA column exploring the legacy of metal, rock, and punk bands throughout time, one album at a time.

In February, a new 16-track edition of Sodom’s 1994 album, Get What You Deserve, will be re-released as a deluxe, expanded version. This album is recognized for its defiance against the prevailing ’90s musical trends, showcasing a significant punk influence. Through this release, the band continues to embody raw energy and grit, remaining faithful to their roots in genres like Venom and Motörhead.

Remastered and newly mixed by Andy Brings, this edition of Get What You Deserve will bring new life to the album, preserving its raw, unadulterated sound. It will include additional content such as the remastered and remixed Aber Bitte Mit Sahne EP, along with bonus material like the band’s first concert with the late drummer Atomic Steif. The packaging includes multiple versions of the artwork, delivering a comprehensive experience of the album and its visual elements.

Lead singer Tom Angelripper reflects on the band’s intention to channel the spirit of classic acts like Venom and Motörhead, infusing their music with punk roots and straightforward musical aggression. The band’s drummer, Atomic Steif, made a significant impact on the album, contributing to its powerful sound, though his unfortunate passing in August 2025 means he will not witness the renewed love for tracks like ‘Jabba The Hutt’, ‘Sodomized’, and ‘Silence Is Consent’. Angelripper describes him as the German equivalent of renowned drummer Dave Lombardo.

Producer Andy Brings emphasizes the stripped-down, free of additives approach used in the original album, aiming to capture the band’s undiluted creative energy. His commitment to maintaining the album’s raw defiance results in an authentic listening experience that stands apart in the realm of metal and punk music. As per Brings, the album remains proud of its unique sound, standing as a testament to pure defiance and creative originality that defies categorization.

The forthcoming release of the expanded edition of Sodom’s 1994 album, Get What You Deserve, offers fans an opportunity to rediscover the band’s powerful, memorable sound. With remastered tracks and bonus content, this reissue celebrates the band’s legacy, propelling its influence and significance into the present day and beyond. Marking a standout moment in Sodom’s discography, the album continues to inspire fans with its unapologetic energy and refusal to conform to prevailing musical trends.
