Exciting Album Releases: David Vertesi Goes Acoustic, Bryan Adams Hosts a Holiday Jam
Amidst Thanksgiving in the United States and with the holiday season approaching, the pace of new album releases may be slowing down, but some noteworthy Canadian artists are making waves this week. One such artist is David Vertesi, recognized as the frontman of the well-known indie group Hey Ocean!. Having embarked on his solo career a decade prior with Cardiography, Vertesi marks the 15th anniversary of this debut with the release of Cardiography (Acoustic), a stripped-down adaptation of the original album. Produced in a live, minimalist setting by Daniel Klenner, Vertesi’s acoustic rendition features guest vocals by Hannah Georgas in the song “All Night, All Night, All Night.”
Notable Canadian musicians releasing fresh music this week include the diverse singer-songwriter Dylan White from Ontario with his album “Fronds,” veteran blues group Johnny Max Band presenting “Johnny Max & His So-Called Friends,” and indie folk artist Alex Mason with his second album “Breaking the Blue Sky.” Drawing attention as well is Johnny 99, the solo project of John Sponarski, City and Colour’s guitarist, who ventures into classic country music in his latest endeavor, “Mr. Lonely.” The album includes collaborations with members of City and Colour, as well as guest appearances by Kendel Carson and Georgia Harmer.
Established Vancouver artists have also made announcements about forthcoming releases. Indie rock legends 54-40 are preparing to drop “PORTO” on January 23, while Juno Award-winning pop-rock vocalist Danielle McTaggart, under the alias Larkk, is gearing up to unveil “Cinders” on February 13. The debut Larkk album is said to present McTaggart’s departure from indie rock’s high-energy vibes towards a more raw and sincere lyrical approach.
In further news, Quebec’s Les Louanges will release his album “Alouette!” on April 10 through Bonsound. The first single, “Je confirme ma prĂ©sence,” showcases an innovative, hip-hop influenced sound that blends elements of indie rock. Additionally, Canadian icon Bryan Adams is set to host a Christmas special on Citytv this December 8, coinciding with the release of “Bryan Adams & Friends: A Great Big Holiday Jam,” which features collaborative tracks such as “California Christmas” with artists like Alessia Cara, Alan Doyle, Barenaked Ladies, and The Sheepdogs.
The Canadian music scene is bustling with a myriad of upcoming album releases, marking a diverse array of genres and styles. Stay tuned for the latest music offerings, as the industry continues to thrive with creative ventures and collaborations.
