Saxon begins work on new album, targeting 2026 release
Saxon has embarked on the production of their 25th studio album, slated for release in late 2026. The recording process has kicked off with drummer Nigel Glockler, bassist Tim “Nibbs” Carter, and guitarists Doug Scarratt and Brian Tatler laying down their parts. Behind-the-scenes glimpses of these sessions have been shared on the band’s social media platforms. This upcoming album serves as a follow-up to their 24th record, Hell, Fire and Damnation, which made its way to stores in January 2024 courtesy of Silver Lining Music.
In discussions about the songwriting process earlier this year, frontman Biff Byford shared insights into the creative journey. Byford expressed, “Well, we’ve started writing the next album. I’m doing lyrics now. And I’ve got a lot of ideas from [Doug Scarratt], Nigel [Glockler] as well, and from Nibbs.” Byford mentioned compiling a plethora of ideas at home in his studio, hinting at the possibility of a new album debuting in the autumn of the following year, around September or October.
Formed in Barnsley in 1977, Saxon boasts a worldwide album sales figure of approximately 23 million units. Classic hits such as “Denim And Leather,” “Princess Of The Night,” “Wheels Of Steel,” and “Power And Glory” have cemented their legacy in the music industry. The band enjoyed significant success in the 1980s, with eight albums securing spots in the UK Top 40, including four within the Top 10 and two reaching the Top 5. This era witnessed Saxon rise to prominence as one of the leading metal acts in Europe.
Presently, Biff Byford and Paul Quinn stand as the original members of the band. Following Quinn’s departure from touring activities in early 2023, Brian Tatler stepped in for live shows starting from mid-2023. Tatler continues to showcase his talent with Diamond Head alongside his commitments with Saxon.
