DK and Seungkwan of Seventeen Release New ‘Serenade’
Seventeen, the popular K-pop group, is celebrating their 11th year with a new sub-unit featuring their main vocalists, DK and Seungkwan. These two members have already proven their chemistry in BSS, another subunit of the group. Despite being known for their vocal talents, they also bring a fun and light-hearted energy to the stage.
DxS, the latest sub-unit, showcases a different genre and sound while highlighting the versatility of Seventeen as a whole. The mini-album features six tracks, including solo songs from each member. The lead single, “Blue,” accompanied by a music video, explores the complexities of falling out of love. Throughout the album, DK and Seungkwan’s voices blend seamlessly, offering a mix of pop-rock, ballad, and R&B.
In an interview with Rolling Stone, DK and Seungkwan shared insights into their latest project. They emphasized that DxS places a special focus on the vocal elements, allowing them to showcase new sides of themselves. The duo worked closely to express genuine emotions and create a tracklist that resonates with fans on different levels.
Reflecting on the recording process, Seungkwan noted that working as a duo allowed them to concentrate on each other and communicate more deeply. Despite their usual roles as mood-makers in the group, they found a deeper connection while preparing for this album. DK shared an anecdote about the surprising abundance of great songs they encountered during the selection process, underscoring their musical compatibility.
The members also discussed their personal growth throughout the project, acknowledging the similarities and differences in their musical tastes. This shared journey allowed them to bond further and create a more profound album. Their chemistry, often leading to tears or laughter, played a significant role in shaping the album’s emotional depth.
DK and Seungkwan’s contributions to the lyrics added personal touches to the project. Lines like “The petals that bloom on my way to see you are telling me it’s love” and “Countless goodbyes we exchanged in the same dream” reflect their emotional investment in the music. The duo aimed to express layered meanings in their songs, urging listeners to interpret and feel the emotions behind the lyrics.
While preparing for the mini-album, DK and Seungkwan drew inspiration from their unique colors as artists, striving to distinguish DxS from Seventeen’s music. Their cover of “Die With a Smile” by Bruno Mars and Lady Gaga aimed to showcase their vocal harmonies to a broader audience. The pair’s commitment to authenticity and emotional expression shines through in their latest musical endeavor.
