Detroit’s death metal icons, Temple Of Void, have made an official announcement about their upcoming album. Titled “The Crawl,” this fifth studio album is slated for a release on March 6, 2026, under the Relapse Records banner. Not only have they revealed exciting news about a new album, but they have also blessed fans with a music video for the title track, now available to stream on Relapse’s YouTube channel.

This new offering from Temple Of Void takes a different turn from the brooding depths of their past works, such as “Summoning the Slayer” in 2022. While still carrying the band’s signature ferocity and raw intensity, “The Crawl” boldly steps away from the confines of traditional genre labels. Guitarist Alex Awn describes how the band approached this album with a desire to create powerful music without being tethered to specific genres like death metal or doom metal. The band, now comprising Alex Awn (guitar), Jason Pearce (drums), Mike Erdody (vocals/guitar), and Justin Malek (bass), includes nuances of grunge and post-punk in their sound palette, expanding their sonic spectrum without watering down their ominous, death-infused essence.

The album’s early singles, “The Crawl” and “Soulburn,” demonstrate Temple Of Void’s newfound musical complexities. Within tracks like the album opener “Poison Icon” and the colossal “The Twin Stranger,” the band showcases its unwavering strength and dynamism. Lyrically, “The Crawl” delves into intricate, dark subject matter, building upon the psychological horror themes explored in their previous work “Summoning the Slayer.” Singer Mike Erdody does a masterful job of crafting narratives that touch on issues such as deception, coming to grips with one’s doppelganger (“The Twin Stranger”), and the dread inherent in Harlan Ellison’s science fiction tales (“Godless Cynic”). This narrative depth reinforces the album’s introspective and deeply unsettling vibe.

Recording “The Crawl” was not an easy task, as the band battled the harsh cold during a week-long session at Kurt Ballou’s GodCity Studio in Salem, MA. The album’s raw vitality was captured by Ballou himself, along with engineer Zach Weeks, preserving the authenticity and immediacy of the band’s performance. Noteworthy mastering credits go to Brad Boatright at Audiosiege, delivering an album filled with jagged guitar tones, punishing basslines, and fierce drum sounds.

Adding a visual dimension to this auditory journey is the album’s captivating cover art by Travis Smith, known for his work with Opeth and Death. Smith’s evocative designs mirror the album’s deep exploration into psychological and existential darkness, further enhancing the listener’s experience.

To experience the dark, sonic labyrinth that is “The Crawl” for yourself, pre-orders are now available. This album promises to be an immersive, spine-chilling experience for fans of heavier music genres.
