ANTHRAX offers a sneak peek of new music during Canadian tour following decade-long album hiatus
Anthrax has been giving fans a taste of their upcoming album during their recent Canadian tour with Megadeth and Exodus. Observers captured footage of the band performing a snippet of a new song at shows in Edmonton on February 21 and Saskatoon on February 24.
The iconic thrash metal group from New York is gearing up to release their new studio album in May. While Megaforce will handle the album release in North America, Nuclear Blast will take care of the European distribution. It’s been a decade since Anthrax’s last album, For All Kings, dropped back in 2016.
Bassist Frank Bello disclosed the release window of May during an interview with Dan Coniglio from Long & McQuade. Bello expressed his excitement about the upcoming album, stating, “The record will come out in May. I’m very proud. It’s so heavy.” He also mentioned the challenging nature of some parts of the music, praising Joey Belladonna’s impressive vocals. The recording and mixing sessions took place at Dave Grohl’s Studio 606 in Northridge, California, with producer Jay Ruston at the helm. Ruston has collaborated with Anthrax on previous albums, including For All Kings and Worship Music.
Bello assured fans that if they enjoyed the band’s previous work, they would not be disappointed with the new material. Reflecting on the lengthy 10-year gap between albums, he expressed gratitude to fans for their patience. The band shot a music video for their first single in December, adding to the anticipation surrounding the upcoming album.
Anthrax was founded in Queens, New York, in 1981 by Scott Ian and bassist Dan Lilker. Over the years, the band has released 11 studio albums and earned six GRAMMY nominations. The Canadian tour concluded with performances in London, Ottawa, Halifax, Moncton, and Quebec City in early March.
