Austin police recently revealed footage from their quick response to a mass shooting incident that occured at a Texas beer garden. During the incident, 3 individuals lost their lives, and 19 others sustained gunshot wounds as a result of the shooting. The perpetrator, identified as Ndiaga Diagne, was swiftly neutralized by officers moments after they arrived on the scene.

In a series of released videos, relating to the account of events, one officer is seen on his body camera footage moving past fleeing individuals while taking cover behind a wall. Among the chaotic backdrop, the urgent call of “It’s an AR-15!” is heard, prompting the officer to shout for everyone to take cover, foreshadowing the imminent danger.

The Austin Police Department disclosed that within 57 seconds from the first emergency call, officers were on-site, responding efficaciously to the unfolding crisis. Within moments, three cops confronted the suspect as he aimed his weapon at them. Responding to the imminent threat, the officers returned fire, tragically ending Diagne’s life in the process. The police department also unveiled parts of the 911 calls made during the incident and a video surveillance footage from a parked vehicle capturing the perpetrator’s menacing actions moments before the shooting took place.

During a subsequent press conference, Chief Lisa Davis commended the gallantry displayed by the officers in a dire situation. She emphasized that their decisive actions directly resulted in preventing further loss of life during the chaos. The victims of the attack, who tragically perished, were identified as Savitha Shan, Ryder Harrington, and Jorge Pederson. In addition, two victims still remain in the hospital, with one individual’s condition described as critical, highlighting the devastating impact of the event.

The proceedings exposed that the FBI is launching an investigation into the incident with a focus on a potential terrorist angle. It was further unveiled that the shooter, Diagne, originally hails from Senegal. Documents obtained revealed that he entered the United States under a tourist visa in 2000, transitioned to permanent residency through marriage in 2006, and finally obtained citizenship in 2013.

Chief Davis disclosed that authorities in New York had conducted a welfare check on Diagne in 2022, without any additional details indicating a need for mental health intervention. The event has been a tragic reminder of the challenges facing law enforcement in maintaining public safety amidst growing security concerns across the nation.
