Barkly Street gearing up for illumination in West Vic town
Barkly Street in Ararat is revving up for a spectacular showcase of vintage vehicles at the Show Us Your Wheels exhibition, which is taking place as part of the Jailhouse Rock Festival. This highly anticipated event, organized by the Grampians Vintage Vehicle Club Inc., has transformed the street into a vibrant display of classic cars, motorcycles, muscle cars, street rods, and more. From veteran machines to modern marvels, there is something for every car enthusiast to enjoy.
The unique aspect of this exhibition is that it is a free event for both participants showcasing their vehicles and the general public attending. The atmosphere on Barkly Street becomes a blend of a traditional car show and a social gathering, with owners proudly displaying their vehicles, sharing stories, and visitors admiring the impressive lineup of automobiles. This year, organizers have included a special feature of “naked radiator” vehicles, showcasing early vintage cars dating back to before 1930, providing a glimpse into the history of motoring.
According to Mr. Byron, one of the event organizers, these early vehicles offer a rare opportunity for people to see up close and appreciate their historical significance. Many of these vintage cars are close to or over 100 years old, making them a fascinating highlight of the exhibition. In addition to the impressive display of vehicles, there will be a thank-you raffle draw for the participants, with approximately 20 prizes sponsored by local businesses up for grabs during the afternoon.
The Show Us Your Wheels exhibition is just one part of the broader Ararat Jail House Rock Festival, which promises a weekend filled with live rock and roll music, dancing, and market stalls at Town Hall Square. Various bands will be performing at venues across the town, creating a lively and festive atmosphere. The festival will also feature food and coffee vans, along with local businesses opening their doors to enhance the experience for festival-goers.
The festivities will continue into Sunday with a Show and Shine event at the Ararat racecourse, offering more opportunities to appreciate classic vehicles while enjoying music and dancing.
