Sweet Pill from Philadelphia drops fresh indie rock album
Philadelphia-based alternative rock band Sweet Pill has recently dropped their new album, ”Still There’s a Glow,” via Hopeless Records. The release marks the band’s second LP and comes after a period of creative hurdles and introspection.
The album serves as a follow-up to their debut, “Where The Heart Is,” released in 2022, during the band’s college years. Following the success of their first album, vocalist Zayna Youssef noted that the band experienced some challenges as they navigated through life’s realities, facing changes in relationships and having to come to terms with the transient nature of people’s presence in their lives.
Youssef also revealed that during the period following their debut record, she found herself battling writer’s block and ensnared by depression. Guitarist Jayce Williams explained how the band’s intense touring schedule exacerbated the challenges they faced. He emphasized the importance of stepping back and finding a balance to tap into creativity, as the demands of a fast-paced lifestyle can take a toll on the creative process.
Despite these setbacks, Sweet Pill managed to put out two EPs in the interim: “Starchild” in 2024 and “Unraveled” in 2025, both under Hopeless Records. The band embarked on a focused writing trip to work on their new album, leading to the generation of approximately 20 fresh song ideas. Youssef conceded to struggling initially to connect with the new material, prompting her to ask her bandmates to revisit their existing work and make further modifications.
Reflecting on the challenges they faced during the creative process, guitarist and vocalist Sean McCall spoke about the importance of trusting one another, likening their collaboration to a group of painters working on a canvas. He acknowledged that artistic differences can lead to conflict but underscored the band’s ability to reconcile their creative visions to produce cohesive work.
The release of “Still There’s a Glow” is a testament to Sweet Pill’s resilience and commitment to their craft, showcasing their ability to overcome obstacles through collaboration and mutual trust.
