Thailand is gearing up to showcase its rich musical heritage on a global scale as the Creative Economy Agency (CEA) spearheads the Music Exchange 2026 project. This visionary initiative aims to thrust the vibrant “Thai Music Wave” onto the international stage by providing a platform for 22 talented Thai artists to showcase their skills at more than 20 prestigious music festivals worldwide.

The project has carefully handpicked an array of Thai acts, including renowned artists like MILLI and BUS, to represent the nation in key global markets spanning the United Kingdom, United States, Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan. By offering financial assistance and forging valuable connections with international industry leaders, the CEA seeks to elevate Thailand’s creative economy to new heights.

The booming Thai music industry’s exponential growth is evident in its rising value, which exceeded 3,577.6 million Baht in 2024, propelling the country to the 29th spot in global music market rankings. Predictions indicate that by the end of 2026, Thailand will emerge as a frontrunner in music growth potential among Southeast Asian nations.

A notable shift in the global music landscape has seen a heightened interest in Asia as a musical powerhouse. This paradigm shift is underscored by the success of prominent regional events such as Japan’s Fuji Rock Festival and Thailand’s Big Mountain Music Festival, attracting massive crowds and bolstering Asia’s status as a music destination.

The Music Exchange project strategically taps into the burgeoning “Music Tourism” sector, which represented 21.8% of the global music tourism market, valued at approximately $19.9 billion in 2024. These festivals not only entertain audiences but also catalyze local economies through increased demand for accommodations, transportation, and hospitality services.

To maximize the project’s impact, the CEA has adopted a dual strategy for 2026. The ‘PUSH’ strategy involves providing financial subsidies to facilitate Thai artists’ entry into new international markets and foster global fanbases. Conversely, the ‘PULL’ strategy focuses on facilitating Business-to-Business (B2B) collaborations between Thai creators and global festival organizers, agencies, and talent scouts.

The Music Exchange project has left an indelible mark in the past two years, supporting 95 Thai artists across 64 international festivals and reaching an estimated audience of 54.7 million worldwide. Noteworthy collaborations with 76 international agencies through showcases like CAT Expo and Big Mountain have paved the way for lucrative negotiations on international tours, licensing deals, and production collaborations, solidifying Thailand’s standing as a pivotal player in the creative economy.
