Cheap Trick excites fans on tour with a mix of classic hits and new album.
Cheap Trick took to the stage at the Xcite Center in Parx Casino for an electrifying performance on Friday night as part of their All Washed Up tour. The band delighted fans by drawing heavily from their classic album “Cheap Trick At Budokan,” kicking off with the iconic opener “Hello There” and ending the night on a high note with “Goodnight.” The audience was also treated to hits like “Lookout,” “Clock Strikes Ten,” and “Ain’t That A Shame.” In addition to these fan favorites, lesser-known tracks like “Radio Lover,” “I Know What I Want,” “On Top of the World,” and “Heaven Tonight” made appearances, showcasing the band’s musical versatility.
Although the setlist featured mostly songs from their extensive catalog, the band did include “Twelve Gates” from their latest album “All Washed Up.” They also revisited tracks from their debut album, such as “Hot Love” and “The Ballad Of T.V. Violence,” much to the delight of the crowd. Of course, no Cheap Trick concert would be complete without staples like “I Want You To Want Me,” “Dream Police,” and “Surrender,” which had fans up and dancing.
Despite their many years in the music industry, three original band members – guitarist Rick Nielsen, singer Robin Zander, and bassist Tom Petersson – have remained dedicated to the group since its inception in the 1970s. While they may be in their 70s now, they continue to bring high energy to their performances and entertain audiences around the world. Joining them on this tour were Rick’s son Dex Nielsen on drums and Robin Zander’s son Robin Taylor Zander, who took over lead vocals for “Downed,” adding a fresh and dynamic element to the show.
Throughout the night, Rick Nielsen wowed the crowd with his extensive guitar collection and interacted with fans by throwing guitar picks into the audience. The band’s incredible musicianship was on full display during an extended jam session on “On Top Of the World,” showcasing their talent and chemistry on stage. The audience was up on their feet from the very beginning, and the energy in the venue was palpable as fans relished every moment of the performance.
Having been making music together for nearly five decades, Cheap Trick has built a storied career that includes numerous albums, hits, and unforgettable live performances. “Cheap Trick At Budokan” remains one of the band’s most iconic albums, propelling them to fame in the 1970s and solidifying their status as rock legends. While their peak years may have been in the late ’70s and early ’80s, Cheap Trick continues to captivate audiences with their timeless music and high-octane live shows.
The band has a long history of performing in the Philadelphia area, with past shows at legendary venues like the Philadelphia Spectrum and the Hard Rock.
