Vancouver band blends Rush riffs with funky flair in latest album
Vancouver based band, Brass Camel, recently unveiled their latest album, showcasing a refreshingly unique blend of Rush-inspired riffs and funky beats. The self-titled album captures the essence of classic ’70s progressive rock infused with a modern and precise production quality.
Lead guitarist and vocalist, Daniel Sveinson, expressed the band’s newfound approach to creating this album. He mentioned, “We took a very different approach to it this time, teasing it out over time and gradually rolling out the videos.” The band, which remains entirely self-represented, took pleasure in experimenting with different strategies for the release of their album, emphasizing their enjoyment throughout the process.
The album was crafted during breaks in the band’s busy touring schedule. Recorded at Crown Lands multi-instrumentalist Kevin Comeau’s Chalet Studio, it was co-produced and mixed by Terry Brown. Noteworthy for his work with iconic bands like Rush, Jimi Hendrix, and The Who, Brown’s expertise added a layer of authenticity to Brass Camel’s sound.
The band’s musical influences, deeply rooted in bands like Rush, seamlessly blend within their music. The ten dynamic tracks on the album were fine-tuned at Vancouver’s HippoSonic Studios. Brass Camel’s latest offering exudes a raw energy, drawing inspiration from classic rock while maintaining a contemporary sound that resonates with audiences today.
Lead guitarist Daniel Sveinson expressed his enthusiasm for the recording process, emphasizing the band’s unity in creating music that brings them joy. He stated, “The Chalet was just the perfect place to record for us to get into the right mindset to make something that reflects all the influences we bring together as a band.” The collaborative effort among band members resulted in an album that defies conventional music norms, allowing them to explore new territories in their sound.
The selection of preview singles from the album, ranging from the explosive “What Are You Going to Do” to the infectious “Everybody Loves a Scandal,” highlights Brass Camel’s versatility in genre-spanning variations.
