Grimes reveals new album and self-diagnoses with ‘AI Psychosis’

Grimes, the Canadian musician, is not taking a break anytime soon following her recent performance at Coachella. In a recent interview, she shared that she is currently working on a new album, Psy Opera, which is nearing completion. Despite contemplating leaving the music industry, Grimes has found her way back to creating music.

She reflected on her hiatus, stating, “It’s not quite done. I totally quit music a couple of years ago. Everything I’d been going through with the public and my personal life and having kids, I was like, ‘I’m just going to be a stay-at-home mom. Screw this. I started writing poetry, and then someone was like, ‘Can you write a rap for this K-pop artist?’ I started writing the rap, and I was like, ‘This is too good. I’m keeping this because it’s crazy.'”

The upcoming album features a fusion of pop, poetry, and rap, incorporating various creative elements. Grimes also discussed her use of artificial intelligence (AI) in music production. One particular track on Psy Opera, titled “DeepSeek,” includes lyrics generated by the Chinese open-source AI model of the same name.

When asked about her experience with AI, Grimes expressed enthusiasm, saying, “It felt awesome. I don’t care about humans using generative AI. I might have AI psychosis. I just hope we get to live with superintelligent creatures who think differently from us.”

The forthcoming album, Psy Opera, follows Grimes’ 2020 release, Miss Anthropocene, which achieved top placement on the Billboard Top Dance/Electronic charts. It is evident that Grimes continues to push creative boundaries and explore innovative ways to express herself through her music.
