Hayley Williams collaborates with Failure on new track “The Rising Skyline”
The latest release from Failure, titled “The Rising Skyline,” dropped on April 21, featuring a collaboration with Hayley Williams, the lead singer of Paramore. This single serves as a preview of what fans can expect from Failure’s upcoming seventh studio album, Location Lost, set to be released on April 24.
Unlike their usual approach, Failure decided to include a guest artist on this track. “The Rising Skyline” showcases a stripped-down acoustic arrangement that allows Williams’ vocals to take center stage amidst minimal instrumentation. Lead singer Ken Andrews expressed his satisfaction with the collaboration, stating, “Failure doesn’t do a lot of collaborations, but my friendship with Hayley, and her long-standing support of the band, turned this song into a very satisfying duet.” He also noted that it is perhaps the most delicate song they have ever created, with Williams’ vocal delivery enhancing its emotional depth.
Williams takes over the second verse of the song before harmonizing with Andrews during the powerful chorus. In addition to her contribution to “The Rising Skyline,” Williams also appeared in the band’s recent documentary, Every Time You Lose Your Mind.
This collaboration did not come out of thin air; there is a history of camaraderie between the two artists. Paramore previously covered Failure’s 1996 hit “Stuck On You” on their 2006 Summer Tic EP. Andrews and Williams also shared the stage at an LA benefit concert last year. The connection between the artists runs deeper, as Andrews mixed Paramore’s 2013 self-titled album, and Williams has cited Failure’s 1996 release, “Fantastic Planet,” as a source of inspiration for starting Paramore.
“Location Lost” comprises nine tracks from the trio of Andrews, Greg Edwards, and Kellii Scott. Leading up to the album’s release, the band unveiled singles like “The Air’s on Fire” and “A Way Down.”
Failure kicked off their spring North American tour on April 21 with a sold-out album release show at Zebulon in Los Angeles. The tour is scheduled to run through May 20 in Toronto, featuring All Under Heaven as the supporting act for most shows. Additionally, the band is slated to perform at festivals like Sick New World in Las Vegas on April 24 and Welcome To Rockville in Daytona Beach on May 8.
The group has also announced fall tour dates, commencing on Sept. 30 in San Francisco and including stops in cities such as Vancouver, Seattle, Brooklyn, Indianapolis, Denver, and Dallas. Quannnic is set to support all headline shows during the fall tour. Tickets for the fall dates go on sale on April 24 through Failure’s official website, with most spring shows selling out prior to the tour’s launch.
