My daughter, who, to the best of my knowledge, is not from hell, recently shared with me the exciting news of Gracie Abrams’ upcoming album titled Daughter From Hell. Intrigued by this revelation, I am eagerly looking forward to listening to it. Abrams delivered some passive-aggressive folk-pop hits on her last album, The Secret of Us, produced by Aaron Dessner back in 2024. Now teaming up once again with the acclaimed musician and producer from The National, Abrams is set to release her latest project.

In a recent Instagram post, Aaron Dessner expressed his immense excitement, stating, “So so so so so beyond excited to share that @gracieabrams’ 3rd album, “Daughter from Hell”, is out July 17 everywhere. The first single, “Hit the Wall”, is out this Thursday night!!” Reflecting on the six years of collaboration with Abrams, Dessner highlighted the growth and creative challenges they have overcome together as friends and collaborators. The journey towards creating Daughter From Hell began two years ago, with sessions at Electric Lady Studios in New York resulting in multiple tracks for the album. From Long Pond to London, they ventured in search of inspiration, pushing the boundaries of their musical expression and further refining Gracie’s poignant lyricism.

Dessner’s anticipation for the album is palpable as he emphasized, “I believe this album contains absolutely the most moving and powerful work we have done together.” He mentioned the evolution and elevation of their creative process and expressed eagerness for listeners to experience the musical journey they embarked on together. Daughter From Hell is set to showcase a deeper level of artistry and emotion, offering a fresh perspective on their collaboration.

As fans eagerly await the release of the album, the lead single, “Hit the Wall,” features contributions from Bryce Dessner, Justin Vernon, and Ben Lanz. The accompanying music video, directed by Renell Medrano, provides a visual representation of the track’s essence. With a scheduled release date of 7/17 on Interscope, Daughter From Hell promises to be a significant milestone in Gracie Abrams’ career.

In addition to her musical endeavors, Abrams is expanding her creative horizons by making her film acting debut in Halina Reijn’s A24-produced film, Please. Adding to the anticipation surrounding her upcoming album, the announcement of Tom Burke joining the cast further solidifies Abrams’ presence in the entertainment industry.

As the countdown to the release of Daughter From Hell continues, fans and music enthusiasts alike are eager to immerse themselves in Gracie Abrams’ latest musical offering, poised to deliver a deeply engaging and emotionally resonant listening experience. With an impressive lineup of collaborators and a track record of artistic growth, Abrams’ upcoming album holds the promise of being a standout release in the contemporary music landscape.
