The Durutti Column, led by English musician and guitarist Vini Reilly, has announced the release of their first album in 15 years. Entitled RENASCENT, the album, a collaboration between Reilly and Keir Stewart, is set to be available on July 31.

This forthcoming album may mark the end of an era for the group. At 72 years old, Reilly faced a series of strokes in 2010 and has since maintained a low profile. In a rare interview with The Guardian in 2023, Reilly opened up about his lifelong struggles with depression and mental health, shedding light on the challenges he faced due to the strokes. “I carried on and on after my strokes and I got to a level, but it’s not even close [to where I was],” said Reilly. “I really can’t play guitar. It looks ridiculous. It sounds ridiculous. I’ve got a good excuse to stop now because I’ve got arthritis all down here.”

Established in the 1980s, The Durutti Column gained recognition for Reilly’s exceptional guitar skills and the unique atmospheric and psychedelic elements present in their music. Over the years, the band’s music has influenced a wide range of popular artists, from Harry Styles and Blood Orange to Yung Lean and Brian Eno, who once acclaimed The Durutti Column’s LC as his favorite record.

The tracklist for RENASCENT includes songs such as “Echoes In The Memory,” “Your Shadow At Morning,” “Time Present And Time Past,” “Agonistes,” “Liars,” “Vapour In A Matchbox,” “Your Shadow At Evening,” “Sargasso Sea,” “Scammer,” “For Friends Everywhere,” and a bonus track titled “All They See Is Fire” available in CD and digital formats.

The album’s first single, “Liars,” has already been released, giving fans a preview of what to expect from The Durutti Column’s latest musical endeavor.

In essence, the return of The Durutti Column with RENASCENT marks a significant moment in music, as it offers listeners a chance to immerse themselves in the distinctive sounds and creative vision of a band that has left an indelible mark on the music industry.
