Interpol Reveals New Album “This Mirror Weighs A Ton” with Two Tracks Available for Listening
Interpol has made a triumphant return, showcasing their decadent New York rock sound with fervor. While they have never truly disappeared from the music scene, their recent surge in popularity has been hard to ignore. Just a couple of years ago, Interpol mesmerized over 200,000 fans in Mexico City with their music. Lately, the band has been tirelessly touring, gracing festivals with their presence and unveiling new songs on stage. Now, Interpol is making waves again with the announcement of their upcoming album, This Mirror Weighs A Ton, which serves as a successor to 2022’s The Other Side Of Make-Believe.
This Mirror Weighs A Ton marks Interpol’s debut under the Partisan label, presenting a collaboration with renowned producer Andrew Wyatt of Miike Snow at his studio in downtown Manhattan. The album was mixed by the legendary indie psych-rock guru Dave Fridmann. The cover art features a striking Addie Wagenknecht piece from the Whitney’s art collection. The LP is highlighted for its innovative sound design approach, drawing admiration from Wyatt, who shared, “I wondered what it would be like to keep the parts perfectly legible, because everyone in that band writes such great parts, and to add some different spatial dimensions to it. It was something almost a little bit more like chamber music — the musical ideas bear scrutiny without needing the sonic treatment of it to carry all the weight. It was also nice to add a trick or two I picked up over a couple of decades of making pop records.”
In conjunction with the album reveal, Interpol has unveiled the first two tracks from This Mirror Weighs A Ton, including the title track and “See Out Loud.” The latter song was introduced at a live show in São Paulo earlier this year, featuring guitarist Daniel Kessler’s return to vocals, reminiscent of his past performance on “PDA” from Turn On The Bright Lights. Kessler expressed his excitement for the sound design journey led by Andrew, recalling, “I was right next to Andrew when he started doing these incredible things with the sound design, and it was just so exciting. I remember thinking, I don’t have context for what kind of music this is — these big crashes happening before Paul even had a vocal. Logic would have said maybe this is an instrumental. Then Paul just got up, went into the back room and started singing those melodies — and suddenly it was clearly not going to be.”
The album’s tracklist includes a promising lineup of songs such as “Iron City,” “Wounded Soldier,” “Wake Up,” and more. To support the release, Interpol has lined up a series of tour dates across the United States and Canada, with stops in cities such as Denver, San Francisco, Chicago, and Atlanta from July to October. This Mirror Weighs A Ton is set to drop on August 28th through Partisan, offering fans a new dose of Interpol’s raw and captivating sound.
