Ty Segall Teases Upcoming Album ‘Chrome’ and EP ‘Love Fuzzz’ with Track “Black Paint”
Ty Segall, the prolific musician, is gearing up to release his 18th solo studio album titled “Chrome,” which promises to be one of his heaviest records yet. Following his previous album “Possession,” which explored a more nostalgic pop-rock sound, Segall is returning to his garage-psych roots with this new release. The lead single from the album, “Black Paint,” showcases a darker and more intense side of Segall’s music, setting the tone for what fans can expect from the full album.
Unlike his previous solo efforts, where Segall handled almost every aspect of the music-making process himself, “Chrome” was recorded live with his touring band. The lineup includes familiar faces like Mikal Cronin, Emmett Kelly, Ben Boye, and Evan Burrows, as well as Cooper Crain from Bitchin’ Bajas. This collaborative approach adds a new dimension to Segall’s sound, allowing for a more dynamic and organic feel to the music.
The song “Black Paint” is a departure from Segall’s previous work, featuring thick, dark riffs and a flood of distortion that creates a powerful and intense listening experience. The meticulous production on this track and throughout the album showcases Segall’s growth as a musician and producer, drawing on his recent work with other artists to refine his sound even further. Alongside the album, Segall will also be releasing an EP titled “Love Fuzzz,” which promises to offer a unique perspective on some of his older songs.
The “Love Fuzzz” EP includes a stoner metal version of the song “Love Fuzz” from his album “Twins” as well as a new track called “My Pet Guru,” described as “hypnotic art psych fried-kraut air.” This EP serves as a companion piece to the album “Chrome,” offering fans a deeper dive into Segall’s musical universe and showcasing his versatility as an artist.
Both “Chrome” and “Love Fuzzz” are now available for pre-order, with the album set to be released on August 28th via Drag City. Fans can also watch the music video for “Black Paint” to get a taste of what’s to come on the new album. With its heavy riffs, intricate production, and dynamic performances, “Chrome” is shaping up to be another standout release in Ty Segall’s already impressive discography.
