Tom Morello has had to make the difficult decision to cancel additional dates on his solo summer tour across Europe due to a family emergency involving his 102-year-old mother, Mary. Originally, Morello had to postpone two shows at London’s Electric Brixton and the Bataclan in Paris on June 16th, citing a family emergency as the reason for the cancellation.

Now, Morello has announced the cancellation of his appearance at the Tons Of Rock Festival in Oslo on June 26th and the BBK Music Legends Festival in Bilbao on June 27th. In a heartfelt statement shared on Instagram, he expressed, “Dear friends, fans and comrades, my dear mom, Mary Morello, is back in the hospital, and I’m headed home to help look after her.”

Despite the unfortunate circumstances leading to these cancellations, Tons Of Rock has confirmed that The Hellacopters will take over Morello’s slot, and the band Beat, featuring Adrian Belew, Tony Levin, Steve Vai, and Danny Carey, will extend their performance to 120 minutes to make up for Morello’s absence.

Following the latest developments, fans who had tickets for the London and Paris shows, now rearranged for June 29th and 30th, are eligible for refunds, showing Morello’s commitment to his fans’ experience and understanding the impact of these cancellations.

Last week, Morello addressed the situation on social media, expressing his regret over missing shows but also sharing a positive update about his mother’s condition. His resilient and unstoppable mother, Mary, who is 102 years old, has shown signs of improvement and urged him to return to performing and spreading his message of unity and resistance against fascism through music.

Despite these setbacks, Morello managed to return for a show at Pinkpop in the Netherlands recently, and subsequently performed in Nijmegen and at Copenhell in Denmark before the latest round of cancellations. This series of cancellations and rescheduling demonstrates Morello’s commitment to his family while also acknowledging the importance of his musical mission and connection with his fans.

In times like these, it’s clear that family comes first for the talented musician, and fans can only appreciate his dedication to both his art and his loved ones. We wish Tom Morello and his mother, Mary, all the best during this challenging time, and we look forward to seeing him back on stage and continuing his impactful music journey soon.
