Local fans in the region will be thrilled to know that The Gully Boys, a beloved local bar band, are celebrating the upcoming release of their new roots-rock album titled ‘Get Your Own Whistle Pig.’ The band has been a staple in the entertainment scene for over three decades, playing at various local venues such as the former Bentley’s in Woodstock Village, Windsor Station, the Seven-Barrel Brewery in West Lebanon, and more recently, the Ottauquechee Yacht Club in Woodstock’s East End.

The journey of The Gully Boys began 31 years ago when a group of musicians living along Gully Road near the Woodstock-Pomfret line came together for an impromptu vigil at the Quechee Gorge Bridge in August of 1995. The gathering, attended by about 300 local music fans, commemorated the passing of legendary Grateful Dead guitarist Jerry Garcia. Following this event, the band’s founder and frontman Bill Temple reached out to Greg Noonan, the owner of the Seven-Barrel Brewery in West Lebanon, to request a last-minute performance at the brewpub that evening. And so, their musical legacy was born.

The much-anticipated release of The Gully Boys’ new album is accompanied by the recent drop of their single “Baby, It’s You” on major streaming platforms. This single is a preview of the 11 folk-rock and Americana-infused tracks that will be featured on the album, ‘Get Your Own Whistle Pig,’ set for a nationwide release in September. Local fans are in for a treat as there will be an album release party at the Ottauquechee Yacht Club Bar & Grill in Woodstock’s East End on Friday evening, July 17, starting at 7 p.m. Attendees will have the opportunity to purchase advance CDs of the new album at the event, marking the band’s second release in 30 years.

The production of ‘Get Your Own Whistle Pig’ involved the expertise of sound engineer and producer James Brewer, who is also a sporadic member of the band. The album, which has been in the works for 14 years, features songs recorded at various locations in Vermont, including The Underground in Randolph. Every track on the album is a reflection of Temple’s unique and joyful songwriting style, a departure from the band’s early years of covering music by artists like the Grateful Dead and Little Feat.

In conclusion, fans of The Gully Boys have much to look forward to as they anticipate the release of ‘Get Your Own Whistle Pig.’ The band’s long-standing presence in the local music scene and their passion for creating meaningful, eclectic music is sure to captivate audiences near and far.
