90s Band The Yummy Fur to Release First Album in 28 Years on September 25
An indie rock band that made waves throughout the 1990s is now making a comeback by releasing their first new album in 28 years. The Yummy Fur, a Scottish band that was formed in 1992 and disbanded in 1999, is gearing up to release a new EP titled Everybody Talks About The Weather, marking their return to the music scene after more than two decades of absence. The album is set to be released on Sept. 25 through Upset The Rhythm.
Featuring original band members John McKeown, Paul Thomson, and Brian MacDougall, Everybody Talks About The Weather has already released its first single, “Unity Over Europe.” The album will consist of 10 tracks, including titles like “King Of Nothing,” “Blue Sunshine,” and the titular track itself.
The band shared insight into the creative process behind “Unity Over Europe,” describing it as a two-act play featuring characters inspired by the Mitford Sisters. In Act One, the characters Diana, Unity, and Nancy find themselves in a surreal, two-dimensional world reminiscent of a Francis Bacon painting. Act Two takes a darker turn as Unity is launched into space on a V2 rocket aimed at London, drawing inspiration from the works of Thomas Pynchon.
In addition to the album release, the Yummy Fur has announced a U.K. tour, with scheduled performances in cities such as London, Oxford, Exeter, Bristol, Brighton, Norwich, and Manchester. This tour marks a significant moment for fans who have eagerly awaited the return of the band after nearly three decades.
The Yummy Fur’s last album, Sexy World, was released in 1998 as a follow-up to their debut album Night Club from 1996. They have also released compilation albums and an EP titled Male Shadow at Three O’Clock in 1998. Since disbanding, former members of the Yummy Fur have pursued various musical projects, most notably with Alex Kapranos and Paul Thomson founding the band Franz Ferdinand, and McKeown joining the band 1990s.
With the impending release of Everybody Talks About The Weather, fans of The Yummy Fur can look forward to a nostalgic yet innovative return of this iconic ’90s rock band. As they embark on this new chapter, the band’s legacy continues to captivate audiences with their unique sound and compelling storytelling through music.
