Alex Edkins, the former guitarist and vocalist of the band METZ, recently revealed exciting news about his new project, Weird Nightmare. Weird Nightmare is preparing to release Alex’s second album, titled Hoopla, on May 1 via Dine Alone in Canada and Sub Pop in the rest of the world. The album was a collaborative effort with Jim Eno of Spoon and was recorded at Seth Manchester’s Machines with Magnets studio.

One track from the upcoming album, “Forever Elsewhere,” was released last year, and the latest single from the album is the catchy tune “Might See You There.” This song features backing vocals by Julianna Riolino. According to Alex, “Might See You There” is a reminiscence of his teenage years when he would spend time in his hometown, experiencing feelings of nostalgia and small-town boredom. Despite feeling isolated at that time, he views it as a precious period where he could freely explore music with friends.

Alex also shared his thoughts on how the song captures the essence of his past, “Small-town boredom and isolation almost feel like a gift in today’s highly connected world. I feel fortunate for that time spent idly, down in the basement, learning the entire Rancid Let’s Go album on guitar with my friends. I find it easy to romanticize that time in my life, even though I was, without question, a disgruntled kid who badly wanted to escape my surroundings and see the world.”

Weird Nightmare will be hitting the road this summer, with the highlight being a performance at Union Pool in NYC on June 27. The tour includes dates in various cities across North America and Europe. Fans can expect an electrifying live experience from Alex and his band.

The tracklist for Hoopla includes ten songs, featuring tracks like “Headful of Rain,” “Baby Don’t,” and “Pay No Mind.” Additionally, “Bright City Lights” includes vocals from Julianna Riolino. The album promises a mix of nostalgic elements and fresh sounds that showcase Alex’s evolution as an artist.

Overall, fans are eagerly anticipating the release of Hoopla and getting the chance to see Weird Nightmare perform live. With Alex Edkins at the helm, listeners can expect a dynamic and captivating musical experience that pays homage to the past while embracing the present. Get ready to dive into the compelling world of Weird Nightmare and experience music that resonates with raw emotion and energy.
