Cleveland’s Little Italy neighborhood is facing a crucial decision regarding the funding of extra police services once its current agreement with the University Circle Police Department concludes by the year’s end. The proposed Special Improvement District (SID) aims to gather financial support from property owners through an added yearly assessment to extend University Circle Police patrols, maintain street cleanliness, and provide snow removal services. This proposal is currently in the phase of securing petitions and generating backing from the community and is scheduled to come into effect in 2027 if approved. However, not all residents are in favor of this initiative, citing concerns about the financial burden it might pose, especially to those on fixed incomes. Should the proposal not move forward, the Cleveland Police’s Third District would assume the primary patrolling responsibilities in the area.
